Taming of the Shrew

I feel that the story Taming of the Shrew is a bit wild because of just how the induction starts off. The best quote for me from the induction would be "O monstrous beast, how like a swine he lies! Grim death, how foul and loathsome is thine image! Sirs, I will practice on this drunken man." This is the Lord talking about how Sly is a drunk and seeing him passed out like a pig is an unpleasing sight. But, we all know people like Sly every single community has that town drunk that is a burden and drinks until they are pissy drunk, vomiting, and passed out. I think that all this prank would do in the end is do one or two things make his drinking problem worse. I feel this way because this is going to hurt his feelings and when you are hurt and you might result to drinking. Yet it can also be beneficial and stop him from drinking because of the embarrassment that he get because of being drunk and really believing that someone can wake up after fifteen years. It is crazy because how can go from being a bum to a king and that is really going to mess him up. Then you cannot even kiss your wife that is another sign or something strange. I understand having no other sexual activity but just a kiss? A kiss can only kill you from passing something like an illness. It is like this Sly at first did have his doubts but if you wake up and everyone is telling you the same thing and then you have been asleep fifteen years even though in their days that was impossible and it is still almost impossible to happen in today with our modern medicine so maybe you can get tricked now but it should not have happened back then.

  1. I did not really understand what was happening in the story “Taming of the Shrew”. Also I have never really enjoy any of Shakespeare's plays. They always seem very overrated and the story itself is also usually overly complicated. The characters always tend to do overly complicated plans and schemes, which is the equivalent of sitcoms today. That is why I disagree with your assessment of this story, because I do not think that there is a deeper meaning. Just because Shakespeare plays were written along time ago does not make them good stories. I have this same opinion about other authors and playwrights from the past, but I should stay focused on Shakespeare. The only Shakespeare play I kind of like is the one about Julius Caesar, but that is only because it is some what historical and I really enjoy history. So I kind of ranted, but in conclusion I do not think there is much depth or hidden meaning to the taming of the shrew.
