Fences
The book fences overall is crazy but what stood out to me most is the character of Troy and how good of a woman that Rose is. So ladies I know that if your husband someone that you had been with for over twenty years no matter the situation if your husband has another child of wedlock during the time that the two of you all are married you would leave him and I would if my wife was to be pregnant with the baby conceived from another man. She even tries to still work it out also still and raises the child after her mother dies but she did end up calling it off and calling Troy “ A womanless man.” So she finally stood up for herself, but this still does not affect her being a good woman in my opinion because she raised a child that was not even hers and the child came from the result of her husband cheating. Now to the character of Troy I am pretty sure we all can say that he is not a good guy, but considering his upbringing you can understand why he is messed up in the head, and something you cannot take from is that because of him being illiterate I feel that makes him a harder worker even though he did not finish the fence at the pace that Rose wanted him to complete it. I feel that him being an illiterate black guy is one of the reasons that he was not allowed in the MLB because of and at this time you had to be both smart and a good player. . Also maybe Troy was not as good as he believes that he was, and this is why he did not make it because of that. Because Troy was a drunk and drunks do lie and believe things different and see them different than we do.

I agree that Troy is not a good person and I think most people would agree as well. During the first half of “Fences” you might have been able to argue that Troy was not a terrible person, but the as your read you soon find out that he cheated on his wife Rose, and got the girl pregnant. However I do disagree with you when it comes to Rose. I do not think that Rose stayed with Troy, because she was a good wife. I think she stayed to take care of the child, Rose even tells Troy this during the story. She basically says that she is staying so the child will grow up with a mother. She even tells Troy that he is know a woman less man. I also disagree that Troy was a drunk, but he is for sure a liar. The reason I do not think that he is a drunk is, because he is able to hold down a job. So in conclusion I agree with you about some of your points, but not all of them.
ReplyDeleteI agree that I would leave my husband if he was to have a child with another woman. I am all for working things out in the marriage and working towards getting back to where we were but only under certain circumstances. For example, if he was to tell me that he felt like he our relationship was changing for the worst, then I would give all of my effort to build a stronger relationship that would last forever. For me personally, him having a child with a completely different woman would make me feel insecure because I would ask myself, “Am I not enough; What does she have that I don’t; How could he do this to me?” Although I would know that I did nothing wrong and there more than likely was nothing I could’ve done differently to prevent this from happening, the thoughts would still run through my mind and eventually make me not like myself. When things like this happens, the woman always has to build herself back up and remind herself that she, like Rose, did not deserve that but must rise above it and be the bigger and better person.
ReplyDeleteThe play Fences was pretty twisted at times in my opinion. Troy was an abusive husband and father, who loved his family at times, he just never showed it. You stated that Troy is the way he is because of his upbringing, but you would think that since he had such a terrible childhood, that he wouldn’t want to treat his family the same way his father had treated him. I also totally agree with you on how wonderful of a woman Rose is, by taking in her husband’s baby with another woman just to make sure that it’s life isn’t as screwed up as Troy. She put aside her feelings towards Troy to help an infant live a good happy life even though she wasn’t the mother who gave birth to the child. Rose states “you can’t visit the sins of the father upon the child this child got a mother, but you’re a womanless man.”
